instED is seeking a summer intern with an interest in healthcare delivery system innovation for a rare opportunity to gain hands-on knowledge and experience in transforming the care of vulnerable people facing urgent health issues in a dynamic, startup-like environment.

What You'll Be Doing:

Over the summer, this intern will work closely with the instED Chief Medical Officer and Quality & Safety Project Manager to examine and improve CCA's innovative mobile urgent care service, instED. The intern will receive hands-on experience, including riding along with paramedics who provide in-home visits, observing doctors who supervise the care, and visiting the emergency department in order to see and understand urgent care from start to finish.

Additionally, the intern will receive close supervision and direct teaching in healthcare management, quality improvement, and data analysis from an experienced and well-rated former Harvard Medical/Public Health educator. Lastly, the intern will be given the opportunity to directly shape care delivery in ways that touch thousands of patients, with the potential to for highly productive interns to produce an impressive final product and/or publication. The specific focus will be determined by the needs of instED and the interests of the candidate.

As this type of experience is typically only available to students in elite business and health professional schools, this is not your typical opportunity. Ideal candidates are those with an interest in a career in healthcare delivery, as well as abundant curiosity. Strong quantitative and communication skills are a must; prior healthcare exposure is a plus, but not required. This role can be done hybrid or remote. Historically our interns have come to the Downtown Boston office once per week and had the opportunity to join fun company outings in/near Boston.

Additional Information

  • All internships will be paid standard and competitive rates for undergraduate and graduate levels ($23 and $25 per hour respectively). Internships are expected to be full-time through the duration of the program.

What We're Looking For:

Required:

  • Undergraduate student currently enrolled or a recent graduate within the last 2 years

OR

  • Graduate student currently enrolled or a recent graduate within the last 2 years

Desired:

  • Interest in a career in healthcare delivery

  • Experience in process improvement (e.g. lean), program evaluation, economic analysis or data science preferred.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with intermediate level skills in Excel to perform data analysis using pivot and lookup tables.
